Weekender: Asheville, North Carolina

Some times everyone needs a getaway, and a bachelorette party is one of the best excuses in the world. I had the greatest time with some girls in Asheville and totally fell in love with the city!

We went to explore the downtown area and do some shopping. The first thing we all noticed were all the dog friendly restaurants, bars, and shops! How awesome is that? They even set out water dishes at the doors so the pooches wouldn’t be thirsty.

All of the stores were so fantastic with artisanal crafts, food, and other products. It was right up my alley and I could have spent lots of money. I am super excited to use the jar of locally sourced raspberry honey that I picked up from the Bee Charmer! Every sales person truly knew their product and were eager to share about it with you.
We had lunch at caramel, which was scrumptious. I ordered the candied tomato and Brie pizza, which totally held up to the lofty bar the name set. I devoured it and was in a blissful Brie cheese coma. Highly suggest a visit to this restaurant if you are in the area.

After lunch and more shopping we went to a store called chocolate fetish. I felt like Charlie in the chocolate factory seeing the invention room for the first time. I got way too much chocolate and loved every single second of it. I bought chocolate raspberries, chocolate pineapples, a mint truffle, and my favorite — the champagne truffle. It was absolutely chocolate heaven.

My favorite meal I have had in a long time happened while on this trip. Strada Italiano was the best and most authentic food I have had since I was in Italy. I got the duck which was outstanding. It was topped with figs wrapped in prosciutto. Oh my, what a wonderful meal. The cheese board put it way over the top and made me have a smack the table food moment. There is a lounge right next door which served some fantastic cocktails/mock tails and it even had a rooftop lounge.

We also went to a paint your own pottery place called Fired Up. The ladies there were more than gracious and even offered shipping since we were out of state and would not be there to pick up fired pieces. It was really relaxing and fun to get to sit with some girls and make a take home (or in this case, mail home) momento of our trip. I cannot wait until my plate comes in!

The cabin we stayed at was cute and cozy, perfect for six girls on a getaway. The hot tub was an added bonus and relaxed my tired feet after a day of walking in new shoes.  This was an ideal location which was less than 15 minutes from downtown, all while having a “woodsy retreat” feel without being out in the actual woods. Convenience was the name of the game for this rental.

All in all, Asheville is a fantastic gem of a city. It is full of hippy vibes, quirks, and fun around every corner. You can find so much to do, I really can’t wait to go back again.
