Bungalow Design Board: Little Kitchen and Dining Room

Its the start of a new month, so that means I am moving on to another room in the little house! I am so excited for this process and to share it all with you. I decided that in addition to my design and inspiration board posts like these I will be posting a recap of what I actually bought for the downstairs and the upstairs in two separate posts. Things have been coming along so well so far and I cannot wait for October. But for now, I’ll get along with the kitchen inspo.

I made the selections for the finishes in my little house in mid-April. It was the most exciting and nerve wracking choice of all time. I already had a clear vision of what I wanted, but it still is so tempting with such pretty options. The whole first floor will have the medium tone walnut style flooring. I originally was set on putting hardwoods down, but was swayed by this option because of my potential to use this as a rental property later on. I want it to be easy maintenance and this option looks beautiful. I selected the granite with lots of variation called white mist. It was a huge decision, and I think it will pull the colors of the kitchen together nicely. The granite has white, black, grays, and even a speck or two of brown in it. I just love it. The paint color for the entire house will be Alpaca by Sherwin Williams. After I move in, I plan to do some extra painting to some rooms.

White shaker style cabinets were one of the only upgrades I made in the kitchen on selection day. I am not always a fan of white, but with the space being EXTREMELY small, I thought it may open it up a bit. These next two photos are from an identical layout to my tiny kitchen but with someone else’s selections.

I really like this faucet from amazon. It’s flat black, simple, and would look awesome with my countertops. The inspo for any hardware always comes from Schoolhouse Electric, their stuff is just top notch. A girl can dream, right?

Underneath the upper cabinet by the sink is a perfect place for a wall mount knife rack. I found this one from the Webstaurant store. These knives from anthropologie are really giving me all the feels. I love that they have white handles. Its really the little things.

The only art that I have found is from Schoolhouse Electric. I love this equal measure print but it would not match my color scheme at all. I am going to look for something similar in a cool color palate. I mean how cute is this?!

The kitchen comes with a little bar area that will be perfect for two barstools. Of course I am over-analyzing every detail, but I think that I have found the style that I’m super excited about.  I love green. Green everything. Even these barstools from overstock are the perfect green accent for this area.

When it comes to the dining room, I have the best antique farm table that I adore. It is a drop leaf table that easily fits 4 chairs but 6 can totally be do-able. I currently don’t have enough chairs to go around it so that is the one thing I am desperately searching for. I am looking for something simple, with good lines, and slim enough to fit underneath the table fully.  Something like these black dining chairs is what I’m looking for.

From there, besides decorations and small items, the last thing I’ll need is a rug. My love for Vintage Rugs is unwavering. They make me Screen Shot 2018-04-22 at 10.13.49 PM.pngso happy and I couldn’t imagine a more perfect statement piece than a vintage rug under my table. I have been looking at antique stores and online, but none have really hit home for me. The best option I have found is on Etsy. I love the look of this rug, but unfortunately the dimensions are off or I would have scooped it up. I have a few online realtors of vintage rugs that I follow frequently.

In the dining space there is no real room for art, or wall hangings of any type. With an open floor plan leading from living to dining to kitchen, the only two walls in this space have the french doors leading to the patio with the half bath door being located on the other wall. The very last design element that I need to decide on is the overhead lighting for over the dining table. I know I want flat black, to match the rest of the house, but I want something a little statement making. Something minimal but striking, and if I can find something that incorporates my favorite LED candle lightbulbs then it will be a real winner. Below are some of my favorite options from Home Depot.
